editor’s note: this post was written a couple of weeks ago & then wifi connectivity was lost. i will be posting as much as i can in these next few weeks. i never want to forget this incredible trip. i also have a travel journal with daily entries. i am a nerd for collecting memories.
i am combining these two days since day 5 was very light.
i woke up late on this day, visited with more family & then we partook in “las disfraces”.
the children in the town dress up in creative or cute costumes & la reinas vote for their favorite. we had a hand me down costume that looked so adorable on benji. even though he wooed his two primas in front of the town by kissing them, he did not win. our little primo javier got runner up with his adorable diy snail costume!
the next day we went to haro which a city about 45 minutes away. they have a bodega (winery) called muga. it was very fascinating learning how they have retained the original processes. it has become a bit commercial since they export to so many locations but back in the day it was the hub. people ate & had parties there.
afterwards we ate at vega in haro. i have absolutely no photos from this but if you happen to find yourself there, get the flan!
another tradition in the town is to go to “los pinos”. there are tons of family & friends relaxing on the side of a mountain close to the town. we went later on in the day. benji had his first taste of “pitufo” which is a smurf ice cream & tastes delicious. i think this little boy is fitting in very well around here.
ps: get ready for pamplona! foodie pics galore.
