cinderella, cinderella! (in tampa @ the straz center)

hey hey!

i’m slowly working my way back to my old self. i spoke in more detail on last week’s sippin’ social hour podcast about my computer being stolen & blog slog. have a listen & don’t forget to subscribe for our future podcasts. we have some great topics comin’ your way!

when the opportunity to see the production of cinderella on its OPENING NIGHT came (thank you to the straz center & tampa bay bloggers!), i HAD to take it. and i got to take my mama! she was so thrilled!

the straz center is very special to me since i feel like i grew up there. i’ve watched david copperfield perform his tricks & the spectacular “mamma mia” cast dance from a balcony. i’ve seen the thought provoking “spring awakening” & the raunchy daniel tosh from just a few rows up. before he was my boyfriend, i watched jimmy graduate from high school on that stage. but one of the most unforgettable moments was meeting someone who then got me a spot on the side stage to watch sugar ray & uncle kracker perform. i know, not that big of a deal now but i was 16 at the time & thought it was the coolest. i got to see a shirtless mark mccgrath backstage too. eek!

what a mixed bag of entertainment, right?! that is what I love about the straz center.

last night reminded me of that special feeling i get when watching a show there.

the rodgers & hammerstein’s cinderella version has officially become my favorite. after coming off of a disney filled birthday for benji, i thought i would want the tried & true cinderella story we all know & love but this one delivered beyond expectations.

everyone was dazzled.  there was not one, not two but THREE  costume transformations that completely left the audience in awe. our usher told me that it rivals one that can be seen during broadway’s “legally blonde” production. during intermission, we were all gushing on how ella (cinderella), played by paige faure, transformed seamlessly.

speaking of the incredible actress who played ella, during my research i found this great article about how she balances being a mom to a 20 month old & performing every night on tour. great read!

one of my other favorite characters was evil stepsister charlotte played by, aymee garcia. she had some of the best lines of the night as well as the fairy godmother marie (who flew across the stage!), played by kecia lewis. every single joke delivered so well with the audience. men were hootin’ & hollerin’!

don’t miss this show! 7:30pm tuesday, wednesday & thursday through october 26th!

it truly was a production for all ages. i saw every combination of couples last night & all were raving about it when we left. what a magical night! now if only i could find my venetian glass high heel! ;)

ps: some cell phone pics of the night!
