You guys, I need to be stopped from purchasing more books. I buy all the books, all the time. On Audible or Amazon, I have no boundaries. My love for books is something my mom passed down to me. I remember vividly hanging out at the library on Saturdays while she got in some free time after a long week of working. It is easily my number one form of entertainment. After having Benji & Penelope, I have had to get creative or intentional about when I can read. Gone are the days of binge reading & finishing a Harry Potter book in a day!
As I have said in the past, the thing I love more than reading all the books, is talking about all the books! I would love to spotlight some on here as I finish them. First up are the books I most recommend for those who have either graduated from college recently or need some corporate/entrepreneur advice.
Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert
I was able to witness an incredible speech given by Elizabeth Gilbert in 2014 at Oprah’s “The Life You Want” national tour. She spoke about her journey before writing “Eat, Pray, Love” & a bit about what her life looked like after “making it”. I really enjoyed listening to this book on Audible & felt connected with a lot of the nuggets of wisdom she shares. One compelling chapter was how to handle the moments where an idea you may have had but never acted on is completed by someone else. It happened to her & her approach was remarkable. I also really loved how she discusses being creative & also working in a profession that isn’t typically viewed as creative (hello – me in a nutshell!) You have to read this if you are needing some uplifting creative inspiration!
How to Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie
The title may sound super cheesy but did you know this book has been a best seller for 60 years?! Right now it currently sits top 25 on Amazon! These principles can give you a solid foundation on how to navigate the workplace. I read this almost two years ago & a lot of the tips still stick with me. You have to read this if you want to learn how to handle inter office relations!
The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg
One of the most fascinating books I have read in quite some time! I have always been interested in case studies about the way we humans work. This book goes over the various ways we develop habits & really opened my eyes to why I do some of the things I do! For my Tampa people there is an awesome chapter about Tony Dungee you will love. You have to read this if you want to learn how to create healthy habits (work & personal)!
You are a Badass by Jen Sincero
Never have I felt like I was getting schooled by a book like I did with this one! I listened to this on Audible as well & felt like it was a good friend telling me what is up & to shush the voices of self doubt. Jen Sincero has a way of writing that will compel you to go after those dreams & goals like you never have before. You have to read this if you need a good kick in the pants!
Let me know if you are going to grab any of these & let’s start a virtual book club! :)
Ps: I am trying something new & included my own Amazon affiliate links. If you choose to buy through the link, just know you are supporting my horrible book habit! HA!
